Non-Mexican Citizens Traveling to Mexico – Travel Requirements Update

Updated: March 10, 2025

New Travel Permit Requirement for Medical Travelers to Mexico

Do non-Mexican citizens need a permit to enter Mexico for medical purposes?

Yes. However, this is not a new requirement but an update to existing regulations. Previously, only travelers staying more than 7 days or venturing beyond 35 km from the border needed to fill out an Multiple Migratory Form or FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) and pay a fee.

With the latest update, all foreign travelers—regardless of trip duration or distance—must register with Mexican immigration authorities (INM). However, only those staying longer than 7 days are required to pay a fee.

What should I do if I have a medical appointment in Mexico soon?

If you are traveling with MedicalMex or our Trusted Partners, you don’t need to worry! Our concierge team, patient coordinators, or transportation staff will handle the FMM registration for you before your visit.

To ensure a smooth process, please provide the following details to your patient coordinator or transportation contact as soon as possible:

  • FMM Registration Information Required:
  • Full Name (First & Last):
  • Date of Birth:
  • Gender:
  • Contact Phone Number (including country code):
  • Number of Days in Mexico: (Please notify us if there are any changes to your stay.)
  • Home Address:
  • Travel Method: (Air, International Land Border, or Sea Entry Port)
  • Passport Expiration Date:

What travel documents do I need?

All non-Mexican citizens must carry a valid passport (must not expire during your stay in Mexico).

Additional Recommendations:

We highly recommend bringing an additional valid ID or driver’s license.

If you are only carrying an ID or Driver’s License (without a valid passport), you may be sent to a secondary inspection, which could cause delays or itinerary changes beyond our control. To avoid complications, please ensure you bring a valid passport.

If traveling with companions, they must also fill out the form—please provide their details as well.

Can I fill out the form myself?

Yes. If you prefer, you can complete the FMM form online at:
https://www.inm.gob.mx/spublic/portal/inmex.html

Important Note: Some fields on the website may still appear in Spanish, even if you select English.

If you complete the form yourself:
Please send a copy to our transportation coordinator at fmm@medicalmex.com or share it with your MedicalMex point of contact to ensure smooth coordination for your arrival.

By following these guidelines, we’ll help make your medical travel experience stress-free and seamless.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact your MedicalMex coordinator. Safe travels!
